LENNOX MIDDLE SCHOOL'S GARDEN
BY DANIELLE HAYMAN and DEVIN GONZALEZ
Did you know that Lennox Middle School has their own garden? Mrs. Celina Morales takes care of the garden. The garden is near room 304. Mrs. Morales started growing plants because the monarch butterflies where dying, so she started a garden to save the monarch butterflies. The monarch butterflies were starting to go extinct, so that's another reason why she started the garden.
Mrs. Morales started the garden in the Fall of 2016. She started growing because the monarch butterflies were dying so she started making a garden so she can save the monarch butterflies before they go extinct. She started the garden in Room 304.
Mrs.Morales grows mint, spinach, lettuce, and broccoli. Mrs. Morales also grow plants that the monarch butterflies like. Mrs.Morales said that after that plants are done growing she is gonna pick them and eat them. She also said that when there is a lot of monarch butterflies she is gonna let them go.
Mrs. Morales gets the plants from the store and then she plants them in the ground. She also gets seeds and other plants and plants them in them in the dirt. She said that it took at least a year for them to grow. She said that she has at least 10 plants growing in the garden. She said she is going to plant more plants.
Mrs. Morales started the garden because of the monarch butterflies were dying and were going to go extinct. So, she wanted to help the monarch butterflies and she planted plants that the monarch butterflies like so they can come.

lasers machines at lennox
BY SHERLYN WONG
Did you know lasers carve wood and make us objects we use everyday? A engineering group at Lennox Middle School has laser machines that create phenomenal figurines and more. The lasers and their creations will amuse you.
The lasers are completely safe as there is protective glass, but even though the lasers themselves are very dangerous, they are hot and can cut deep into the skin. But thankfully there has been no accidents since the lasers first appeared at school.
It is a long process even the simplest block or other. It takes over 2-3 hours to make a decent big cube. But in the end it’s worth it and a good example to show the school.
The lasers also do other things like carve wood to make decorations and more for bedrooms kitchens and such. They can carve and cut many things for many uses.
Lasers at LMS might be confusing but they are very interesting! I learned about what lasers do and how they help us. Also what the lasers are made of and how they were made. Lastly, I learned interviews are not as bad as you think, you expect to stutter and ask the wrong questions but when I did it I was very comfortable and got through it easily. The gentleman I interviewed was Mr. Hernandez, who was nice and nice to be around while giving straight answers as he has worked with kids for 2 years.

LEnnox middle school lasers
BY LENNY HERNANDEZ
Lasers are very interesting tools that my classmates use. I thought that lasers were dangerous and that kids can't use lasers, but they can. My story is about the Lennox Middle School Lasers School of Engineering.
The uses of this lasercutter is shaping furniture and shaping well fitted plastic. This cutter can also carve metal. LMS is also using the laser cutters because they are cool and it makes kids pay more attention. They also use it for making cool things like gliders. Finally, that can be used for shaping toys out of plastic.
This is how the laser cutter works. First you need to have well fitted plastic. It moves precisely side to side, up and down, to shape what you want to shape in the correct size. It can also carve metal and iron plates.
The laser cutter that LMS has look like this. It looks like a glass box with orange sides and corners. On the inside of it, it has metal tubes with a burning hot metal piece to burn through your material you want to cut.

lennox garden helps monarch butterflies
BY MAYLING VILLALOBOS and ISABELLA PEREA
Did you know that Lennox Middle School has their own garden? Celena Morales is a Lennox Middle School teacher in California. She started the garden because of a school project to save monarch butterflies from becoming extinct.
”It started two years ago, last fall," said Mrs. Morales. To save them from dying she made a garden so that they could lay eggs and grow and have more of their species and finally be less extinct.
They first buy the plants already grown and then put them into the ground and then continue to grow them from there. ”They grow spinach, mint, lettuce, arugula, broccoli and more," said Mrs. Morales. They grow them by Room 308 because there’s enough sun and shade by their which is good for the plants in the garden to grow and live.
After all this growing they finally finished and have a great garden! Mrs. Morales and Mr. Duffey tend the garden everyday and sometimes on vacation. They enjoy taking kids out to look at the garden. They continue to keep plants alive and because of that monarch butterflies come and lay eggs and are now becoming hopefully less extinct.
Mrs. Morales started growing the garden because the monarch butterflies were dying so she started the garden. We learned that it was much more than just growing a garden they did it to help monarch butterflies. We also learned that they grow different kinds of vegetables and they are helping the species to becoming less extinct.

MS. MORALES USES GARDEN TO HELP BUTTERFLIES
BY NATALIE GARCIA
Celina Morales started the Lennox Middle School Garden to help the monarch butterflies. Celina Morales didn’t grow the plants herself. She bought the plants at the store. The Lennox Middle School garden is to save the monarch butterflies.
The Lennox Middle School garden has different kinds of plants like mint, strawberries, spinach and chillies. The garden is growing by Room 308 because of the shade and the sun and easy water access.
She is still doing it because she wants to help monarch butterflies survive. She started the garden in 2016. She tends the garden to check on the monarch butterflies.
Celina Morales is in charge of the garden with Matt Duffy. Also, when we are off in summer vacation she tends the garden. This is how you know she loves working on the garden. She takes time to tend it and take care of it.
The Lennox Middle School garden is not only to grow plants but to save the monarch butterflies. I learned that Celina Morales did the garden to save the monarch butterflies. Also, she bought her plants not to take to much time on growing them.

STUDENT EXPERIMENTS GO TO SPACE
BY MARTHA LOPEZ
Dr. Jeff Goldstein, the creator of Student Spaceflight Experiments, said, “My hero inspired me to include students on NASA experiments.” Lennox Middle School students presented at a conference and their science experiment was sent to space. Almost 12,000 students engage in experiments in SSEP. People from U.S.A. join in the experiments and students all the way from Canada and from Brazil. Lennox Middle School was selected for SSEP. The experiments were read by scientists. They selected 3 from the experiments they picked it went from proposal. The SSEP experiment is where students would conduct experiment and write proposals. One of all the experiments would get picked for The International Space Station and will be able to get sent to space. A middle school space experiment was sent to space on June, 3, 2017 in a rocket and came back on July, 2, 2017. I learned that they were in Mission 10. I had an okay time doing this story but I guess I was very nervous for the interview with Dr. Jeff. I would maybe want to do it again because it was fun and something new to me. |
THE USES OF LASER CUTTERS |
|
BY CHRISTIAN GONZALEZ
Did you know that lasers are known for building houses and other things? While doing research, I saw that some laser cutters were around 10,000 dollars but those that cost that much are the better ones. The cheaper ones are around 1,000 -5,000 dollars. While interviewing Mr. Hernandez, he said it takes around three weeks to build a laser cutter. The main idea is that Lennox Middle School students learn about engineering.
The lasers are used to cut hard material that you can’t cut with normal tools that you use. So it's used for construction and more. In construction work they cut the material then build the houses with that. That is one of the uses for the lasers.
The uses for lasers are for work but also different stuff. So it can also carve stuff plastic or metal you can carve your name. Also it can help with making furniture with a laser cutter. So you can cut the material way more faster than just using normal tools.
The main idea is that kids get the laser practice from engineering class. I also learned that laser have more uses than just showing a dot. It was cool experience learning about lasers. I have never focused on a topic like the laser cutters. I thought it was a great learning experience this whole time.

LENNOX STUDENTS USE LASERS FOR ENGINEERING
BY HUMBERTO ERROA
At Lennox Middle School kids use lasers to cut finches also it takes a couple of weeks to build the lasers and students use lasers for engineering. I am going to talk about my three questions.
LMS lasers are dangerous because when they cut wood the piece of wood come out. Also the lasers get so hot that it can bring you and cut you.
My second reason is the laser cut furniture. The answer was yes because it can cut wood and furniture is weaker than wood.
My last question is how long did it take to build the laser. The answer was it took a couple of weeks to build the lasers.
Now I am going to tell you what I learned. I learned that they lasers can cut furniture. I also learned it took a couple of weeks to build the lasers.
